So this is more of a rant kind of board something you can get off your chest about RPGs that just irk your nerves. It could be as small as wolfspeak or as large as metagaming. Which are two of my biggest RPG pet peeves. DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING TO PERSONAL! Guys this is just a rant board of things that bother you about RPGs. If you do one of the pet peeves just now that you know try not to with the person. It's fine. This is more of a curiosity thing for me as well. *AHEM* anyways on to explaining my pet peeves.
*To make this more humorous I'm using urban dictionary. Which if you don't know know what a term is just click the terms and you will be able see a sarcastic meaning of the word :D*
Wolfspeak - Stop it. Just stop. I want to beat you upside your head with that thesaurus and dictionary you're trying to rape. Ok I know you want to sound intelligent in your posts I get it. But do you read novels like that? NO! Only Shakespeare got away with making up words and confusing the heck out of people you are not Shakespeare my friend you confuse me more than he does. Play-by-post RPGs you need to understand are several different people aging from early teens to young adults. There is a reason why journalist write like they do. It's so the masses can understand them. You need to assume who is going to respond to or read your post is in middle school and write for them. That's not to say you need sound like you've never taken an english class but you do need to use modern simple English sentence structures. You aren't being graded and you aren't going to be judged if you make your post readable. If I read your post and my brain hurts because your sentences don't make sense with all the "big" words you're trying to cram in them, I'm not going to respond and am going to think you're an idiot. I try to join sites that frown upon you guys or try to teach you to think before you pick up that thesaurus. Just if you wolfspeak, use bare minimum with me. RPGs are a hobby not a contest to who can cram the most intelligent sounding words into a sentence. It's a pet peeve of mine and I think there needs to be a google translate for you.
Metagamers - (*Use definition number 5 cause that pertains to us Play-by-post folks*) this is it basically - "using out-of-character information in-character." This is "newish" term but it's a term slowly becoming just as annoying as powerplaying and godmodding. You know me OoCly and I know you OoCly. But ICly our characters don't know squat about each other, unless they know all the high ranking characters by name or if siblings. Other than that they don't know crap. If we plan something OoCly your character don't know it and your character don't automatically become my characters dreamboat or enemy or best friend. That takes so much fun at playing our characters as we have INTENDED them to be and seeing how the flow together. If they clash then it's FUN to be enemy's ICly. If we plot something lets not get to hasty and rush things either. You character doesn't know everything and even though you playing your character know what the end results the best thing about RPGs are is that you can twist and turn and torture your character or totally get a new idea and change. That's what I love about RPGs the unpredictability of how the post gonna go don't ruin that for me.
Ok this is my RPG pet peeves. Please share yours. Also if I see something that I do on one of your pet peeves I make a promise from now on to NEVER or try NOT to again for you. I like to respect people :D
